A note from Mr. Hill

The cold weather is fast approaching. We ask parents to dress their youngster as warmly as possible prior to their leaving for school. Even though some children ride the bus to school, they still will be spending a considerable amount of time outdoors on the playground, particularly during the noon hour. Our school district policy states that when it is not raining or when the temperature is 10 degrees or above, pupils are not permitted into the building until the usual time of 8:25 AM (unless they are having breakfast) and 12:45 PM for 4K so be sure to dress your youngster for our Wisconsin winters. On rainy days or when the temperature is below 10 degrees, pupils are permitted to enter the building at 8:15 AM and will spend the noon hour indoors. A red flag will be placed on the doors indicating early entrance due to inclement weather. Please be sure your child has a hat and a pair of mittens. PLEASE LABEL THEIR ITEMS SO IT’S EASIER TO RETURN IF THEY ARE LOST.

Hello everyone!
We have had a busy couple of weeks! The students have been busy working on many different projects and I am impressed with all that they have accomplished. We are currently working on our listening and speaking skills in Writing. The students have been interviewing one another and then writing biographies about the people they have interviewed. So far, the students biographies are awesome and the family member biographies have been a pleasure to read. I have definitely learned a lot about my students as well as you all! Thank you so much for all of your willingness to participate and help for the biography project.

For the past couple of weeks, Room 110 has been doing awesome in their specials. They have definitely been choosing to have great attitudes and trying to be there for one another. They have been so successful at this that they have been receiving rewards for their improvement for the past two weeks. We have won an award from Mr. Hill for excellent literacy practice as well as one from Mrs. Cardwell for having a great attitude during gym class.

For the rest of the week, we will be working on poetry as well as finishing up our biography project. Also, Friday we will be having our Holiday Party in the afternoon.

October 22nd-25th, 2012

What another great week in Mrs. Graff's room!
Although this was a short week, there has been a lot going on in Room 110! The students have been busy working on their Persuasive Paragraph and I would have to say, they have worked very hard and so diligently. I am so proud of them for all their hard work and their drive to build their writing stamina. As I am reading through their first drafts and revision, I am excited for what their essays will be like.

Another big change this week is our implementation of cooperative learning table teams. Not only will this look differently for our students but our classroom looks a little different as well [it's a bit more colorful now]. We really want to help create a community of learners that are supportive, engaging, and interactive. In Room 110, we strive to be exemplary of the FISH philosophy in our relationships with one another and with others. We long to see our students being there for one another, making each others' day, choosing good attitudes, and having fun while they learn [play]. As a class, we brainstormed some possible jobs that each table team would have. Collectively, we decided which jobs were most important. We are still in the process of choosing jobs as well as creating expectations for each of the jobs. Mrs. Graff and I are both excited to see the students engaging and enjoying classroom life together. We hope you have an awesome FOUR day weekend and we will see you all Monday!

Announcements:
We will be starting WKCE testing on Tuesday, October, 30th, 2012.

WKCE

Federal law requires all public school children in grades 4 and 5 to participate in statewide tests in Reading and Mathematics.  Fourth grade students will also be taking tests in Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Writing. These tests are called the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examination-Criterion Referenced Tests (WKCE-CRT). Mitchell will be giving these tests from October 22-November 19. Specific testing dates and times are listed below. Parents can contribute to their child’s success by ensuring your child gets adequate rest and has a good breakfast every day in order to concentrate and be able to think critically. Finally, encourage your child to do his/her best. Thank you for your support!
